I wonder if all contraprops embody the same basic principles. It would be an interesting thing to see details of the design fitted to late-model Griffon Spitfires and Seafires by way of comparison.


Trying to synchronize machine-guns to fire past those must have been a nightmare.

Not certain if they had nose guns in it. They may have just used the wing-mounted guns? Here is an original photo from Curtiss files of the "XBTC-2 Model B"

Hi.

Very interesting Design

Martin Baker solved an “oil problem” with the UK contra-rotating airscrews but can not remember if it was solved for the Spitfire or the Shackleton first.

Circa 1940 the two Fairey completely variable–pitch three bladed propellers
Weight per pair = 570 lb. (11’ 6’’ diameter)
