Re: F3D Competitors

Hi hesham.

Grumman G-75(XF9F-1) participated in competition.

Re: F3D Competitors

Dear Tophe,

if you have the book Curtiss since 1907-1947,please tell us the Curtiss
proposal for this competition and also for A3D competition.

Re: F3D Competitors

You have to wonder if the Curtiss entry wasn't a navalized version of the XF-87 "Blackhawk"?

Re: F3D Competitors

By the way,

the source for this info was the book,The American Fighter since 1917 to the
present, and the Fleetwings submitted a proposal and the Curtiss also, but it
was not Curtiss-Wright as we think.

Re: F3D Competitors

the contenders were;

1) Douglas F3D Model-561
2) Curtiss Model-? or P-?
3) Grumman G-75 (XF9F-1)
4) Fleetwings Model-?
5) Goodyear GA-13

I haven't seen a Fleetwings proposal. Curtiss-Wright did propose. Also Consolidated Vultee (VF-4505), Bell (D-31), and Vought (V-343).

Very great work my dear Tailspin,

Note that the "Model D-31" is how it was identified on the Bell proposal. It is not the Bell Model 31.

Wow, Tommy! This is great. There definitely IS an F3D feel about the Convair. Wonder if the general layout was already provided by the Navy as a canvass for the manufacturers to work from.

Perfect my dear Tailspin,

thank you very much, and please,if you have the drawings to Goodyear GA-13 and
Vought V-343,I will be grateful for you.

I think for Fleetwings,it was Model 50 or 51,because the Model 52 was a helicopter project, created for a competition of September 1945,and this contest was issued in August 1945 ?.

I think not,it's a flying wing design,please see reply # 16 by my
dear PaulMM.
The Kaiser Flying Wing was tentatively designated XBF-1 by the Navy, so it was considered a bomber and not a fighter.
