the DH-122 was first allocated as a variant of Trident to
British Overseas Airways Corporation, and the second
allocated to 6/11 seater executive transport Project,
looks like DH Dove, powered by two turboprop engines.
Barry Jones of course also wrote British Experimental Turbojet Aircraft in the Crowood series in 2003 too (in which his DH.108 paintings appear and probably the text is quite similar to the Aeroplane article).
The two initial prototypes were ordered under contract SB.66562 issued on 13 December 1945. The two airframes (TG283 and TG306) had already been moved from Preston to Hatfield during September 1945.
Specification E.18/45 was formally issued on 11 January 1946.
Given that the Brabazon Committee didn't endorse the idea of the tailless DH.106 concept until the summer of 1945, its probable that the design work was carried out over the summer to enable a rapid start in conversion. As you can see from the dates, the official paperwork somewhat lagged behind the aircraft on the shop floor - although of course there would have been a lot of drafting and discussions around E.18/45 before its formal issue, but by then the design would have been formally signed off before issuing the Spec.
