Two General Dynamics designs are now known for this competition. I don't have any details about the requirement. Clearly STOL/ VSTOL, air-to-ground mission.

Larger copies at Codeone website as usual.

Configuration 102 for an advanced tactical fighter. These early ATF studies emphasized short-field operations. Drawing dated 18 August 1964.

a General Dynamics design concept for an advanced tactical fighter that featured a multiple-engine vertical lift system and variable-sweep wings. The design had two main lift-cruise engines that provided thrust for lift and for up-and-away flight. It had four auxiliary engines mounted near vertically that provided lift for takeoffs and landings. The aircraft had both short and vertical takeoff capability, depending on the size of the engines. Configuration 508A, shown here, was drawn in April 1965.

Incredible projects my dear Paul,thank you;

and may be the same competition for which Vought V-476 and Lockheed CL-846 were
submitted.

Also my dear Paul,

may be the Ryan Model-182.

This must have been a very broad competition (perhaps more of a set of technology studies). Configuration 102 and the "Jiminy Cricket" (Configuration 508A) are so different that it seems impossible that they were designed against the same requirement. Config 102, for instance, doesn't even seem to have much (if anything) in the way of radar, while Config 508A clearly has quite a large dish.

Very nice find!!
Thank you!

Can anyone confirm if these 'Advanced Tactical Fighter' designs were specific to a USAF requirement or was this 'Advanced Tactical Fighter' an unsolicited design study by General Dynamics off their own back?

Regards
Pioneer

Two more configs posted at http://www.codeonemagazine.com/article.html?item_id=114:

Configuration 300-B for an advanced tactical fighter had variable wings and six engines. These early ATF studies emphasized short-field operations. Drawing dated 10 December 1964.

Configuration 506 for an advanced tactical fighter had variable wings and six engines (two for thrust and four for vertical lift). These early ATF studies emphasized short-field operations. Drawing dated 20 January 1965.

F-15 was known as "Advanced Tactical Fighter (F-X)" so it may be related to the earliest studies for this, which initially emphasised VG and air-ground.

Yes my dear Paul,

specially the FX competition started at 1965.

Hey nice find Fightingirish!!
This would have to one of the smallest VG-winged designs I've seen!
It will be interesting to find out more about this design and it's designation!!
