A type that, although actually built in the form of three prototypes, seems to be less known, than several paper
projects, was the "600 PS Großflugzeug" (Large Aircraft with 600hp). Designed by Richard vom Mises in 1915 and
built by the Aviatik GmbH., it was a twin engined aircrat, with the engines in front and behind the cockpit, driving
4 propellers via angular gearboxes. Intended armament were 3 gun positions (in the nose, behind the wing and one, firing
through an opening in the belly) and a bomb load of 350 to 500 kg, stored undr the A and B gun positions, as recognisable
in the sketch of the project. Empty weight was about 3.000 kg, MTOW 4.650 kg, max. speed 150 km/h and a maximum
endurance of 5 hours.

The aircraft was ordered by the k.u.k. Luftfahrtarsenal (Aviation Arsenal) in November 1915, construction started
during January 1916, roll-out was 1st of June 1916. After several modification (beefing up the landing gear, correcting
problems with the engines) the maiden flight took place on 2nd of July. On 30th of July the prototype crashed while landing,
flight testing, using the second prototype continued in October, while the third prototype was finished during November
1916. The aircraft were tested by service squadrons, but no production order was given and the program stopped during
summer of 1918.

Wonderful set of photos on this hard to find aircraft!

The Hansa-Brandenburg G.1 didn't fair any better. However, I've heard rumours that the cannon equipped prototype was deployed.
