I want to keep hydrogen rocketry alive...and frankly have no trust in Bezos capability.
Industry is doing that. Since Shuttle last launch, number of launches using LH2:
NASA - 2
ULA - 115
Blue - 40
Expertise is in industry and not NASA
SLS/EUS is best for outer planet probes.
Not needed, Vulcan, FH and NG can do it cheaper. Even SLS with Centaur V is cheaper.
Anyways, no such payloads since planetary program budget cuts.
The tech bros are rich enough without NASA Centers being gouged to make them richer.
Using commercial rockets extends NASA's budget. NASA Centers and programs that waste resources need to be gouged.
Keeping in-house engineering experience in case Starship or NG fails is a must.
In-house engineering experience already exists and doesn't required own or build the rocket.

False logic. In-house engineering experience for SLS doesn't do anything for Starship or NG failures. SLS doesn't backup either of them.

Also, most SLS engineering is done by Boeing, ULA and NG

NASA doesn't move the needle in the big picture anymore. There was a slight bump for Artemis II but it has faded and Artemis III is years away.
NASA can't waste its budget on duplicating what is available in industry. NASA has to transition to a consumer of existing commercial capabilities and put its development focus on hardware not available or viable commercially.
