Keep in mind that this article was first published on February 1, 2008 and is hardly sensational, with absolutely no allegations of illegality or misconduct. Apparently, this cooperation was entirely legal under Australian law, and there are no political ramifications to the content of the story, which is not defamatory in any sense of the word.

It is also worth noting that a post with the same links was apparently deleted from the Sinodefence forum. Within the narrow context of this forum, the AMD350PB is an unbuilt design and any relationship with the Type 022, is solely a matter of naval design, not geopolitical debate.
 
Lets see how long it takes for the Chinese to both improve an enlarge this basic concept into a purposeful combat efficient ship, that the West has toyed with for over a decade now!

ISTR some of the photos of the 022 show Chinese-built catamaran ferries produced by the same yard - this is old news, as the catamaran design must have been sold to China several years ago.

@ Pioneer: With missiles fitted, the 022 will be a "purposeful combat efficient ship", in that it will be a single-purpose coastal defence platform intended to run out, strike with SSMs and RTB (possibly - there are some interesting differences between these and later Soviet FAC(M)s). I wouldn't expect a sudden generation of multi-thousand tonne catamaran destroyers to appear, unless the CCP has issued some decrees changing the laws of physics...

AMD's cats are very much on the small side and mostly inshore models (<50m). Revolution Design (INCAT) and AUSTAL's design unit have produced >100m long high speed, high sea state cats and tris (AUSTAL) up to 2,000-4,000 tonnes and higher (INCAT have worked on a 10,000 tonne catamaran). They are the cutting edge of Australian multi-hulls and not to be confused with AMD's efforts. The Chinese probably could have acquired the Type 022 design support from many other small-medium marine architects around the world.

As a sidenote, the article was not deleted from the the sinodefenceforum, but was hidden for certain period of time due on-going technical issue conserning new members posting. It should be visible there now. (so no conspiracy trying to deny these links between the chinese and australians ;))
