AEG Aircraft Designations
- Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft, Flugzeugfabrik, Berlin-Hennigsdorf

Since this is the Designation Section, I will avoid listing projects - like the Aviatik-AEG triplane bomber - which remained unrealised and unnamed. However, I will list projects given names or descriptions for which there is no known internal AEG designation.

AEG Aircraft Designs with Names Only

AEG Igel - (Project) 1916 buried-engine reconnaissance aircraft*
- AEG Igel: Named for Mercedes Igel engine in Idflieg spec
- AEG Igel: 1 x 500 hp Mercedes Igel engine; span (??) m
- AEG Igel: Buried engine to shaft-drive 2 x outrigger propellers

- AEG-Hubschrauber: 50 hp 3-phase electric motor; rotor diam. 7.20 m
- AEG-Hubschrauber: 50 hp electric motor; upper rotor diam. 7.20 m

-- * Meant to maintain radio communication with submerged Uboats
- AEG-Hubschrauber: (II) 1940 revived project; rebuilt (I) prototype
- AEG-Hubschrauber: (II) 100 hp electric motor;** rotor diam. 7.62 m

Thanks for the reminder to include the R types, hesham ... I'm not sure how I left those out!

BTW hesham, what was this "GJ.I" that you mention?

Great stuff Maveric!

AFAIK, the AEG triplane bomber and the joint Aviatik/AEG R projects were never issued designations ... but I've used 'completeness' as my excuse to squeeze them into a designation list :D

For your AEG K, I have K (Kabine) appended to previous Idflieg designations. You simple 'K' probably makes more sense since those airframes were stripped of armour and other military accoutrements before being converted to civil cabin types.

Many thanks for your additions!

My dear Apophenia ,

the GJ.I was attack aircraft as I know, without any more details ?.

I haven't found the designation GJ.I in any of my records. In my opinion, it can't have been an official designation. The only aircraft that might come close to this designation was the G.IVk. It was a test version of the G.IV as an attack aircraft with a 20 mm Becker cannon in the armored nose. Furthermore, the engine nacelles were also armored. Another difference from the G.IV was a box-shaped tail unit. A single prototype is said to have been tested in 1918.

Thanks Maveric. There were more differences between the cannon-armed G IVk and base G IV airframe than I had realised!
