What is going on with the Italian Secret Projects Book?

Yes, if you don't have a track record in writing books you need something to show. In my case I had a lot of unpublished images and a comprehensive timeline document and a published article when Chris agreed to publish my P.1121 book. I'd done ALL the research and a fair amount of the image preparation already.

And not to put you off, it's good that you have enthusiasm, but following on from Dan's advice - beware that its time consuming work, you're probably looking at at least 18-24 months of work to get a book ready to be submitted, and that's without the inevitable proofreading, edits and layout work that comes after submission.

Dan's right, you're putting the cart before the horse. Without something to show or a 'sponsor' you'll struggle to get a publisher's attention.

Also, have you approached Skybolt?

Chris

When you submit your sample manuscript for consideration do include an explanation as to why you have written it, summarise the research you have undertaken, describe how it may differ from existing books, and provide your assessment of the target market. The publisher will most certainly have their own ideas but it does no harm to give your opinion.

By the way,

my dear James Davilla, who makes a book about Italian Aviation in the First World War,
I supposed to be in,and after done my sharing,he continued alone, and he intended to
do; Italian Military Aircraft 1923-1943,also I offered to co-operate with more than 150
projects in it,he finished it,but I don't know if he still want this offer or he will publish
it by himself only ?.

I think that,if I share him,it will be the alternative to this book here, because I guess
it will not be written.

Since the Crecy book seems not in development anymore, I would like to show you our latest work... on Italian Secret Projects. in the last 20 years of research and analysis we collected quite a remarkable amount of material on this topic. A rough extimation put in in the range of 1200-1500 pages... clearly too much for a single product, so we splitted it in several volumes that will be progressively published.
Here volume 1, that is authored by Vinz Auteri and with 3d models from Luca Landino, both members of this forum.
For more info

cheers

Paolo

I noticed that the book is Italian-English bilingual, fantastic!

Here volume 1, that is authored by Vinz Auteri and with 3d models from Luca Landino, both members of this forum.
Cover is very stylish, the successful step to represent Italian activity in the aircraft/ordnance development without the usage of "artist's impressions" images. The table of contents is very impressive too - by the variety of presented items and their logical cohesion. Good luck with this and, I hope, next books!

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful suggestions, advice, ideas, and input for Italian Secret Projects! I've not abandoned the cause; my company is in the process of releasing our next model: IRMA Kit No.12 Sud Ouest SO.4000 Vautour I in 1/72. We were preparing to finish and start shipping, but are now on hold due to the tariff/mail fiasco in the USA. My commitment to seeing this book get completed has not wavered. Keep the faith!

So, (exactly) 'what' is your 'connections' to any Italian secret project books? The Sud Quest Vautour is not any Italian aircraft.

Hi Paolomiana,

we never heard about Bellomo Observation aircraft ?.
I hope the author will step in on this question, so he can tell you more about Bellomo and his airplanes. the truth is we uncovered quite an amount of projects that were little known, or considered lost... and a fair amount of pictures or drawings we are still in the process to place and identify.
Next week we will held a streaming event to present and discuss this project. hopefully we will be able to show a bit more on this work

Hi there! Author's here ! it's an early Bellomo project of the 1939. We were lucky to get lot of informations concerning the characteristics, three small draft concerning the crew position, radio, rear position of the gunner and observation. It was a lucky find as the papers were wrongly filed in the national archive. It's a single engine and here's a very small preview, hush hush ! SEGRETO!

Do any 'complications' exist for shipment to the United States (at this time) -- as per any tariff-surcharges, or, any 'recent' shippers' reluctance to ship to the United States?

I shall post this on Facebook-sites devoted to Italian aircraft, so I encourage you to attach more page-illustrations.

The shipment service is up and running regularly. I guess there might be a delay due to custom checks. As for the new policy on custom duties THEORETICALLY I was told they dont apply on books. Still digging into it to be sure. Will keep you posted

sooo... on the matter of tariffs, it seems to me that HTS is not indicating any surcharge on technical books

Hi all,

tonight at 9 PM (CET) we will host Vincenzo Auteri on uor AeroCoffee streaming. we will talk (a lot! we're Italians) abot the secret projects of the Royal Air Force. Don't miss it!

you can follow the event on youtube or on our FB page

Ho, not sure to have received your message. Could you please contact us at [email protected]? Sorry for the inconvenience
I did sent an email to that one, titled: About the book 'I progetti segreti della regia aeronautica vol 1'

Maybe it went to spam folder? Also feel free to send me a direct message in case it hasn't arrived. Cheers!

If this is Volume 1, may I ask, how many volumes do you plan in total?

hallo Nick, we have already material for 3 more books of more or less the same size (let's round each of them to 250 A4 format pages). But honestly... we just started to scratch the surface. we will keep going as long as there is interest on the topic

Good question! My company does aircraft from all around the world. My "connection" consists of a books, drawing, and illustrations in Italian on the subject of Italian Secret Projects and a beautiful, intelligent, wonderful wife from Milan, Italy, who can translate anything I don't understand, and who knows which museums to visit and contact for original source materials. That and a degree in Aerospace Engineering. And we just did a kit of the Campini-Caproni C.C.7 (C.S.11) Toscana motor jet fast-bomber (please see relevant posts).

Any chance of getting the fighter that was supposed to go along with the CC7? I know all the evidence says it never existed, but I'd love it if a Res007 kit was available, the old RS Models resin kit is nearly impossible to find.

Having done a student apprenticeship at AerMacchi long ago (summer of 1972), I have a definite appreciation for Milan and Turin. Off topic, please convey to your wife that she confirms something that both I and a gentleman from the SAAF agreed on, Italy seems to have a higher percentage of good-looking young women and ladies than some other countries (we were both bachelors at the time and we were not complaining)..

Thank you! Yes, the RS Models Reggiane Re-2007 is difficult to locate. Robert is releasing many of the old resin kits in the new injected plastic format, and this may be one of them. My last inquiry on this has not been replied to yet; otherwise, we can add it to our list. I think you are also referring to the C.S.10, and yes, this too is a possibility. There is a gentleman in France doing a C.S.10 in 3D, of which I almost obtained one via eBay, but since then, he's been impossible to locate. We may also be doing the Reggiane Re-2008 down the road.

Ah, my wife! Yes, the best of everything! Beautiful, intelligent, and a shared love of all things aviation. Indeed, my most precious blessing!

The Re.2007 & Re.2008 never existed (except within Roberto Longhi's detailed imagination). Nonetheless, these would've been prototyped given the proper commitment of resources that Reggiane couldn't muster (but a well-resourced Anglo-firm would have). He should've emigrated immediately to UK or US after 1945.

Nonetheless, I strongly suggest taking-up 'all' those dropped-balls of: A-Z Model/LEGATO-series (Czech-firm):
Promised (but not kept): all 1/72 mostly 'plastic' (w/some resin) to replace their 'earlier' all-resin models:
1) C.A.N.T./C.R.D.A. Z.1018 Leone (including their promised 'interceptor' version)
2) Piaggio P.119 interceptor
3) Savoia-Marchetti SM.91fighter-bomber
4) Savoia-Marchetti SM.92 fighter-bomber
5) Savoia-Marchetti SM.93 dive-bomber

(Received in excellent condition.) Using 'primary' sources (almost no color-artwork): an uncovering of behind-the-scene projects via contemporaneous photos: prototypes, wooden-mockups, wind-tunnel models, subsystems (including: propulsion and weapons), technical-memorandums, external & internal configuration schematics (crew, payload-options), and some intended mission-profiles. A 'strange' but disciplined expose. My only criticism: book deserves much better 'covers'. This book, having no rivals in its subject-coverage, should be in the staff & reference libraries of all the great aerospace museums. However, its thin-paper covers could discourage its procurement into the wider public domain. Hardcovers (or much more substantive soft-covers) would enhance its physical appeal and durability for public use. Otherwise, highly recommended.

The construction of 100 CANT Z.1018 M Series II fast bombers was ordered on January 29, 1943 but only five machines (MM.24824 to MM.24828) were completed on September 9.

The first two aircraft in the series were modified as heavy night fighters BZ.303 Lince and the third as torpedo plane.

By 1943 the Italian scientists of the DSSE-Guidonia and SAFAR Company had managed to develop three types of 300 MHz radars:

-Radiotelemetro RDT Argo, early warning ground radar.

-RDT Vespa, airborne naval search radar.

-RDT Lepre, airborne interception radar.

A prototype of the Argo had already been tested at the end of 1942 at the Pratica di Mare airfield.

The Vespa was flight-tested installed in a Savoia Marchetti S.M. 79 bomber and two prototypes of the Lepre were tested on April 29 in SAFAR Cameri-Novara facilities.

It was expected to use the Lepre in the series of night fighters Lince, but to buy time it was decided to install in the MM.24824 one of the FuG 202 Lichtenstein B/C acquired in the spring of 1943. The installation of the Matratze antennas was completed on July 8 but when Italy signed the Armistice of Cassibile in September 8, 1943, the prototype was captured by the Germans and never was completely outfitted for combat.

Type F1 “Metropolitan” paint scheme: Verde Oliva Scuro 2 (Dark Olive Green FS 34952) upper surfaces, Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1 (Light Blue Grey FS 36307) under surfaces, “transparent” Fasci roundels in four positions, White fuselage band and Savoy crosses.

CANT Z.1018 M Lince technical data

Wingspan: 73.8 ft. (22.5 m), length: 57.7 ft. (17.6 m), height: 22.3 ft. (6.8 m), wing area: 701 sq. ft. (63.1 sq. m.), max weight: 26,490 lb. (12,000 kg), max speed: 395 mph (636 km/h), range: 830 miles (1,335 km), service ceiling: 24,272 ft. (7,400 m), power plant: two Alfa Romeo 135 RC 32, eighteen cylinder, radial, air cooled engines each rated at 1,400 hp, armament: four 20-mm MG 151/20 cannons housed in the ventral pack and one rear firing flexible 12.7-mm SAFAT-Scotti heavy machine gun.

I can assure everyone: no Z.1018 could (ever) reach anywhere-near: 395-mph/636-kph on 'merely' 1,400-hp engines.
The whole Z.1018 series was underpowered: likely among the reasons why the Germans cited that the Leone was not that much of a 'tactical' improvement 'over' their (previous) Z.1007 Alcione. The Czech firm: A-Z Models/LEGATO-series wa supposed to bring-out a (near0 all-plastic version of the Z.1007 series: promise never fulfilled.
