Hi,
Entwicklungsring Süd GmbH was formed by a Bolkow, Heinkel and Messerschmitt design consortium on February 23, 1959 at the suggestion of the Federal German Defense Ministry.
The strange thing is that there were two or more series, later I will talk about its sequences.
We can say,and about "EK" or the main series;
EK-1 was an experimental VTOL ground attack fighter aircraft project,
powered by two lift/cruise engines ,plus two lift engines,as
Lift Power: two lift engines located just behind the cockpit, exhausting
at about a 15º fixed forward vector.
Lift/Cruise Power: two lift/cruise engines that vectored exhaust from
vertical to horizontal beneath the rear fuselage
EWR-2 to EWR-6 ------?
EK-7 was a single seat twin jets experimental fighter,had a V/STOL capability
EK-8 was a various V/STOL single seat experimental fighter designs
EWR-9 & EWR-10 ------?
EK-11 was an experimental VTOL aircraft project, powered by one cruise
engine plus eight lift engines,as Lift Power: two banks of four lift engines.
Cruise Power: single cruise engine
EWR-12 to EWR-17 ------?
EK-18 was an experimental VTOL aircraft project, powered by two lift-cruise engines plus three lift engines,as Lift Power: three engines arranged in single
file behind the cockpit.
Lift/Cruise Power: two engines with SNB three-bearing swivel nozzles at the
rear of the aircraft
EWR-19 to EWR-28 ------?
EK-29 was an experimental VTOL aircraft project, based on EK-18,powered by one
lift/cruise engine plus two lift engines,as Lift Power: two engines, a single lift
engine at the center of gravity and another just behind the cockpit.
Lift/Cruise Power: two larger engines that allowed the use a single rear
powerplant.
EWR-30 ------?
EWR-301 & EWR-302 ------?
EWR-303,EWR-304,EWR-305,EWR-306 & EWR-307 were a developed versions of VJ.101
EWR-310 was also a developed version of VJ.101
EWR-320 was a single seat VTOL aircraft project,had a five lift engines,mounted
in the fuselage in the middle
EK-33 was single seat low altitude close support STOL aircraft project, powered by one Lycoming LTC-4C turboprop engine
EK-340 was the same as VAK 191C ?
EWR-350 ------?
EWR-360 was a low-mid-wing VG fighter project, associated with Boeing as US/FRG VSTOL aircraft, powered by two jet engines plus four lift engines, with vectoring thrust and a crew of two
EWR-370 ? was unknown, but may it was developed from EWR-360,had a dorsal inlets, but it differs in having a rear thin fuselage drawn upwards,mid-wing,cone nose and a tail fin looks like MiG-23,also it has a VG in both main and stabilizer wings
EWR 380 & EWR-390 ------?
EWR-400 ? was unknown, but may it was the same as A-400,as two-seat VSTOL
AVS fighter project,in associated with Fairchild-Hiller,after the conclusion of the AVS studies, EWR, was again funded and continued developing its design, designated A400. Although somewhat smaller than the AVS, it employed
the same propulsion scheme, but emphasis was shifted to STOL. Variants
were studied with retracting lift engines (A400) for vertical operations and
without lift engines (A400S) for pure STOL performance.
EWR-401 was a single seat three engined experimental V/STOL aircraft project,
with one lift engine, mounted in the fuselage just aft the cockpit
EWR-410 ------?
EWR-420 was a single seat VTOL aircraft project,had a four lift engines,mounted
in the fuselage,as Lift Power: four RB.162-11 lift engines aligned along the
fuselage centerline.
Cruise Power: single RB.153-61 as the cruise engine
EWR-420/II was a tandem two seat VTOL experimental fighter project
EK-420 ? was unknown,but may it was VAK-191B
EK-421 was the same as VAK-191C ?
EWR-430 to EWR-450 ------?
EK-460/1 & EK-460/2 the concept was for a low-wing two-seat light attack and
COIN aircraftr project, powered by two Daimler Benz DB720/PLT 6 turboprop engines
EK-460/3 & EK-460/4 the concept was for two-seat low-wing attack and COIN aicraft project, but powered by one Lycoming LTC4G-3 turboprop engine
EWR-470 ----- ?,speculated designation
- To be continued, and additions or corrections are welcome
