Transportable nuclear power

Tangential, IIRC, now the Chinese have discovered 'Industrial Fusion Power' will not play by a 'Five Year Plan', they have the problem of needing to pump water along their mega-aqueducts. It's all gotta work, else none of it works. Looks like their best Plan_B is wind-farms along the route, sited near the pump-stations. Modular, economies of scale. And, by the nature of such open aqueducts, a generous variation in supply is acceptable...
 
Security via anonymous container housing. Orion was going to use urea as a moderator, and artificial urea used to help clean diesels. Put a small diesel in with the nuke and folks think it is a generator pod....burial via Starship. Most soldiers just think it is conventional and rogue elements covered by urea if they cut into it on a lark.

How many times has an RPG been fired at anything nuclear in real life?
 
This will be useful, if the paranoia against nuclear power can be overcome.

Like imagine... natural disaster struck city.. then one Mobile nuclear plant goes as early responder. Not only electricity but also provision of clean drinking water and maybe heat too.
 
Same brought up russian transportable nuclear energy for air defense units along with nuclear fuel pump peresvet from old sources at other forums and some suggested it was a bad idea because of nuclear fallout but what would be the point of either dying by radiation or dying by the missile that is going to hit you anyways if defenses fail.
 
If they transported one on U.S highways and there was an accident
we would never here the end of it.
 
The floating reactors would be great for Sea Dragon...scuttle to prevent meltdown?

New reactors won't be an issue because the fuel can be transported separately, a reactor that has been used would be transported (if at all) in a massive convoy on blocked streets, at speeds that can rule out an accident severe enough to release radiation.
So that's no different to current transport ops of nuclear fuel/reactor parts.
 
UK tested their 'actives' transport pod. Ran train into one on its low-loader / low-boy on open road crossing, considered the 'worst case' scenario. Pod was carried some distance, but stayed un-breached...
 
Plus US Raillines already transport nuclear material semi regularly as well. And they treat it extremely seriously.

Beside a few incidents were the cars wheels jump the tracks in the yard, which is a common derail and takes all of 30 minutes to fix, we havent had any issues.

Hell the Army has some Cabooses that the Navy use to have bored spec op types on the train to keep any strange shit from happening.
 
Since the military (army) is supposed to go all electric, we will probably need portable (nuclear powered) generators to keep the force mobile (ha ha)

Have you ever seen how they test the nuclear waste containers?

Smashed one on a truck into a solid reinforced concrete block at something like 100mph.

Truck was a pancake. Concrete block was rubble. Container was unbreached.

If you think that a containment vessel for a portable reactor won't be at least that tough, you should probably talk to your doctor about adjusting your meds.

Yeah, no. Not until they can recharge the batteries as fast as they can refuel a normal vehicle.

That's definitely my best use case.

Though then you need people to not lose their minds about the cooling system, AND be utterly OCD about testing the steam in the secondary loop for radioactivity before it goes into people's homes.
 
Honestly with how the old in 20 year meme of Fusion is becoming closer to within 10 years...

We'll more likely see containerized Fusion reactors then fission.

Fusion is just safer in all regards.

Especially if the Helion Energy Reactor works, 50 electric megawatts in a 20 ton 40 foot frieghter container?

Just need to plug in the fuel lines at one end and the power hook up at the other and you be good to good.

A regular 40 foot TEU maxs at 35 tons, so if that design worksz damn near every Semi Truck and load and pull it with no specail road size paperwork.

Helion Energy is apperantly confident enough to sign a contract that has what amount to Kill Youself penalties with Microsoft, who has a rep of doing so, to have one working in a few years and a factory ready to pump them out by 2030.

IF it works even half as well?

Which also bout as long as portable fission been promised so...

And Helion did since a contact type that YOU WILL NOT SIGN unless you are 200 percent sure you can do what it says. Cause the penalties of breaking it are that bad.
