8-262 Sturmpanzer
Two versions of the Sturmpanzerung are under investigation and have been commissioned by Messerschmitt.
1.) In the lighter and more protective version, the outer hull walls, from the cockpit to the gun bay, are made of armored steel and incorporated into the structure. Extensive modifications to the series and the creation of new presses are required. Whether such press capacities are available is currently being investigated.
2.) The second improvised solution only requires an increase in pilot protection to a 10⁰ firing angle to the longitudinal axis. The goal is to install the required armor plates on the production aircraft without major modifications; however, the cabin front section with side armored glass panels would have to be redeveloped. Reinforcement of the fuel tank protection is omitted, as fire protection is to be ensured by the Dachlaurin fire extinguishing system. Production start possible around March 1945.

Based on design drawings, manufacturing issues for the "Panzerkabine" were clarified at Krupp, Dietzdorf, and the construction was prepared.
