When is a warship a cruiser?

So 3000-7000tons 24-64 VLS is frigate
8000-12000tons 72+ VLS is destroyer
13000tons 72+ VLS is cruiser
AND, or OR? Because either way I can run a coach and horses through your system.

Honestly, though, does it matter? Define the capabilities that are required, and provide a ship that provides those capabilities.

I agree, as I’ve said several times now.
This sort of classification system is obsolete.

terms like cruiser, destroyer, and frigate are completely meaningless today.

Which navy are you looking at? The Dutch Navy classifying its largest surface combatants as frigates seems logical enough. The ones currently projected will likely displace something like 10,000 tons.

Any way I still propose we build my rapid response cruiser.

48ish VLS, 8-16 NSMs, 4 large RHIBs, and 4 Seahawks, marine armory, and berthing for 2 platoons of troops.

Think useful for Benghazi style immediate reaction forces, or covering evacuations like occurred in Sudan, etc.

Can also be an escort specifically for MEUs/ARGs. 2 of them help spread a company’s worth of infantry through out more of the battle group.

When is a warship a cruiser? Well IMO that would be a warship with at least two twin turrets equipped with at least 6" calibre cannons.

I mean we can meet that definition with a 2000 ton corvette if we really wanted too.

It’s not 1935 any more homie
