The article mentions one of the photos being from the Hawker Siddeley Review mag so it may possibly not be an AWA project.

AWA was part of the Hawker Siddeley group which included many other companies including Hawker, Gloster and Avro. AWA tested models for other member companies e.g. the Hawker P.1121 high speed model.

Having said that it looks fairly generic to me and is not necessarily associated with a particular project.

Tony Buttler suggests the wind tunnel model may be the AW 165.

Highly recommended again is Tony Buttlers "British Secret Projects, Jetfighters
since 1950".
According to this great source, the AW.165 was an all-weather interceptor,
powered by two Sapphire Sa.7 engines, maximum speed would have been
about Mach 1.1 to 1.2 .
My drawing was based on the 3-view and the artist impression shown in BSP,
the landing gear is based on the description only, so this detail should be regarded
with some scepticism.
