What is this airplane?

found it in flying cars thread -- although I don't know why it would be there. Looks European, maybe from the Fifties. No registration visible, nor any song of induction, cooling air or exhaust. Beautifully built. Did it fly?

It's the British Planet Satellite which debuted at Farnborough in 1948. It flew in twice 1949; both landings resulting in the collapse of the main landing gear.
