I came across a reference to 'NRTRO' in a file on airborne reconnaissance systems. The file is from 1976 and about a recce version of MRCA.

‘Could we fit a mini SLAR or high resolution IRLS, both with NRTRO?’

Any idea what NRTRO is?

Chris

Near-Real Time something-R-Other? 1976 is a timeframe where you might start to contemplate digitization of sensor imagery for radio relay to ground stations instead of wet film.

I think the Real Time part is probably correct.

Thanks
Chris

NRTRO might be Near (or Non) Real Time Read-Out.

In the book

"International dictionary of abbreviations and acronyms of electronics, electrical engineering, computer technology, and information processing"

NRT is for Near Real Time or Non Real Time, and
RTRO is for Real Time Read-Out

Sold! That makes sense.

Thanks
