The most gargantuan one (where he didn't even tried to put all the elephants) is Dandridge MacFarlan Cole Aldebaran.

- Earth escape velocity: 11.2 km/s.
-Earth orbital velocity: 9300 m/s (with ascent losses).

-Lunar escape velocity: 2700 m/s.
-Mars orbital velocity: 4200 m/s.
-Chemical SSTO needs 0.95 propellant fraction to hit 9300 m/s.
-A mass fraction of 0.80 yields 6500 m/s (average).
So chemical SSTO ain't easy nor even feasible on Earth - but on Moon or Mars ? piece of cake, to orbital or escape velocities...
