US markings on Japanese aircraft

I am trying to research information for a Commemorative Air Force newsletter. I have come across several photographs of Japanese bombers (torpedo, dive) that were painted in a US navy color and marking scheme. So far my general searches on the net and Library of Congress have not come up with anything new. There are numerous stories on the secret Japanese I-400 class submarines, and their aircraft. But nothing about the other types of planes. Has anybody come across this kind of information?
