With a canard configuration, delta-shaped wing and wingtips lowered when in the air, the aircraft closely resembled the XB-70 Valkyrie. The powerplant consisted of four NK-6s and later NK-10 engines in a common packet under the rear part of fuselage. A slightly larger airliner version, the Tu-135P could carry 100-120 passengers and there was a bomber variant, the Tu-137.
