"We have just folded space from Ix. Many new machines on Ix. New machines. Better than those on Richesse."The organizational chart is going to change over the years, but the unit "Space Delta Nine" looks already mysterious.

Maybe just because it reminds me of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.![]()
https://consequenceofsound.net/2020/12/space-force-soldiers-guardians-marvel/amp/the name was selected partially as a tribute to the original motto of the 1983 Air Force Space Command: “Guardians of the High Frontier.”

“The name Guardians connects our proud heritage and culture to the important mission we execute 24/7, protecting the people and interest of the U.S. and its allies,” read another tweet.
Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guardians.

“For space in particular, I would account for the continued growth of adversary space and counterspace capabilities, as well as the adequacy of the steps the United States has taken to improve the DoD space enterprise to address growing threats and challenges in the domain. I would also emphasize the role of resilience in improving our warfighting capability, (emphasis ours) the role of allies and partners, and space-related information sharing. Lastly, I would highlight growing commercial activities in space which can both be threats to and opportunities for the United States.”

Instead of "airman," junior enlisted members between E-1 and E-4 will be called specialists, according to the document. The Army is the other service with a specialist rank, for troops in the E-4 paygrade.
While the Air Force has staff and technical sergeants, the Space Force E-5 rank will be known as sergeant, followed by technical sergeant for E-6. Officer ranks -- second lieutenant to general -- will remain the same as its sister service.
The new rank structure takes effect Feb. 1, the memo states.

Thankfully basement nerds aren't in charge of National Security, that write-up stinks of political bias. Little surprised Val would endorse it, but on the other hand, I'm not.
Wow. That dude is a real piece of work. A few quotes:
"More than anything except the Border Wall and ICE, the Space Force has the stink of Trump on it."
"The persistence of the Space Force can read, I think understandably, as a betrayal of by the Biden administration to the project of unmaking the Trump era. I think having a branch of the military entirely dedicated to Space War is destabilizing, and it doesn't help that case that Trump conflated NASA's civilian & scientific missions with Space Force's formally more violent one."
"Trump's single skillset is grabbing attention, and with the Space Force he managed to take an existing idea and then spin it as his own unique tool of domination."
For sure.Apparently the Biden administration has shelved attempts to dissolve the Space Force for the moment because of insufficient support for the move from Democrats in Congress, as well as opposition from the new SecDef. Doesn't mean that they won't continue to try to undermine it in the meantime though...

Now add Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore to build a gigaton nuke for asteroid deflection
Fragmenting an asteroid would simply turn a rifle into a shotgun. Apart from very long-term methods like gravity tractors, IIRC thinking is now focussed on setting off a smaller nuke to one side of an object, vaporising its surface layers on that side to change its trajectory. With large or fast-moving objects that are already close, it could be done incrementally, using multiple charges placed in a 'roadway'.Now add Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore to build a gigaton nuke for asteroid deflection
Gigaton bomb would require roughly 200 ton of payload capability.
We should have pre-positioned asteroids with propulsion devices attached that can easily be re-routed to impact those that cross Earth's orbital path.Fragmenting an asteroid would simply turn a rifle into a shotgun.
