As it becomes possible to offload more of the capability of a combatant onto offboard systems, does a submarine need to be capable of deep diving? It was accepted a long time ago that putting the extreme performance into torpedoes made sense, so why not do the same with sensor platforms?
Following that to its logical conclusion, does it need to be capable of diving at all - if you go fully in the direction of offboard systems, those can be deployed perfectly well from the surface.
