SpaceX (general discussion)

I am so ashamed. Thanks for letting me know.
(boosting myself far out of any keyboard)...

Next up is the testing of SN7.1 to destruction on the weekend I believe.

A comparison of SN5, SN6, and Starhopper's 150m hops. SN5 does a much bigger power slide than SN6, Starhopper is a slowpoke, and SN6's looks really smooth, relatively.

SN6 is lifted onto pipe stands for leg retraction and removal, then onto a Roll lift ahead of being transported back to the launch site. Work on Pad B, SN7.1, and the Super Heavy High Bay continues.

SpaceX has filed a permit with the FCC for experimental flights up 20 km, valid 10/11/2020 to 04/11/2021:

https://fcc.report/ELS/Space-Exploration-Technologies-Corp-SpaceX/1401-EX-ST-2020

This STA uses information from previous grant 1041-EX-ST-2020 and is necessary to authorize Starship Prototype suborbital test vehicle communications for Medium Altitude Hops Tests_2 (max altitude 20km) from the Boca Chica launch pad, and the experimental recoveries following the suborbital hops. Trajectory data will be provided directly to NTIA, USAF, and NASA. Launch licensing authority is FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation.

Pretty accurate simulation, although SN8 will use 3 Raptors. If SN8 craters, SN9 & SN10 are close behind. High production rate allows for fast iteration.

It's nuts now! SN8, 9, 10 and 11! what SN Starship do you think could reach orbit first when SpaceX begins to do orbital tests?

Just a guess, but probably mid teens. Booster & stacking on orbital pad are likely limiting factors. We’ll build several ships just to improve the production system.

During Battery Day Elon Musk

noted that at Boca Chica there working on LOX production site that will use wind power.

Oh by way, he also announce a new generation of Battery technology
the competition effort for better Battery will reduce them to Steam machine level...
ah yeah, Musk mention also that new Technology offers 7 time faster Battery production, while factory is 10 time smaller as current battery factory

Two more milestones for those of us watching Starship / Super Heavy development at Boca Chica:

1) Starship SN8 has just received its rear control surfaces; in the near future it should also be getting a nosecone (particularly for the LOX header tank in the nosecone) and presumably forward control surfaces.
2) We've spotted the first confirmed section of the first Super Heavy prototype; a 3-ring stack that'll house the common bulkhead that separates the LOX and CH4 tanks. We know it's for the Super Heavy prototype because on the label (in this photo) it says "COMM BARREL ASSY BOOSTER".

I am guessing this probably be the Tom Cruise mission judging by the timing.

Do you have an update on the October Starship presentation if it's still happening in October?

View: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1311928474479792129

Oh yeah, Starship update coming in about 3 weeks. The design has coalesced. What is presented will actually be what flies to orbit as V1.0 with almost no changes.

Possible "Zuma 2" undisclosed launch revealed for October 25th. Customer is NRO and payload is designated NROL-108. Booster will land back at cape.

Meanwhile, they managed to capture another fairing on this mornings Starlink launch.
