SpaceX (general discussion)

There has been an "accident" at the launch tower. I would be surprised if there is a launch Monday or any other day next week.

Window is 7:00am to 9:30am CST.
What is that in good old British Summer Time sferrin?
CST (North American Central Standard Time) : UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) - 6 hours
British Summer Time: UTC +1 hour
CDT (North American Central Daylight Time) : CST + 1 hour

7:00 am to 9:30am CST = 12:00 to 14:30 British Summer Time

1pm to 3:30pm CET ;)

And "C" is not for China (!*), whatever a certain president of a certain republic, says...

*ohh, that nostalgic vibe

What happened?
Something heavy, about 80% up the tower, fell down the middle of the tower with a huge trail of sparks and a loud BOOM when it hit the ground (or whatever part of the structure it landed on).

How quickly we forget in this day and age:

Let's hope no injuries resulted from such stupid failure (something that should have been, easily, on the safe side of this program).

So what will happen to the launch? Any word on the condition of the rocket after the accident?

On morning they access the Launch tower with aerial work platforms, to inspect the damage.
Then remove hardware and Raptor platform from Launch table, move to construction side

Things are looking up for Starship jeffb, any official word about what time Starship will launch on Monday? Fingers and toes are crossed that all goes well for the first launch.
Sorry FighterJock, completely missed your reply. Luckily Sferrin was there to pick up the slack! :)

Bizarre that they put safeties on the elevator car but not on the counter-weight.

Elon Musk on Twitter says success of Starship's first launch is: "Just don't blow up the launchpad." Says there is a high probability of postponement given the complexity of the rocket and the stakes.

"It might launch tomorrow. But if we're going to be very careful, and if we see any thing that gives us concern we will postpone the launch. ... This is not like, you know, some sort of train leaving the station at precisely like 9:03a.m. or something like that."

On possibility of a RUD: It's got "33 engines, and if any one of them goes wrong, it's like it's like having a box of grenades. You know, really big grenades."

"Probably tomorrow will not be successful. If by successful one means reaching orbit."

Starship will launch at 2:20 BST assuming all goes well, fingers and toes firmly crossed at present.

That is not too bad Forest Green, much better than I was thinking. Let’s wait and see if SpaceX can get Starship launched on Wednesday with no more delays.

Must be Adolf Hitler ghost wanting a big firework for its 1889-2023 birthday (134 years !) ...

So we are looking at a potential launch for Thursday and that is if there are no more thunderstorms. I will keep a close eye on the weather forecast over the next few days.
