Boeing M-4.5 Double Parasol Wing concept was tested in 1978 in Advanced Air breathing Concept tests for potential advanced fighter interceptor designs. The tests were conducted in the four-foot transonic wind tunnel at the Arnold Engineering Development Center and sponsored by the Air Force Flight Dynamic Laboratory.

There is a Boeing patent for a parasol wing fighter around, that always intrigued me so I'd like to read more. However, when I try to open your link Adobe says file is damaged and could not be repaired. :'(

this means that you didn't download full file, ot transfer was interrupted due to timeout
download it with any download manager like Flashget or GetRight

Moved to new topic. Added McDonnell-Douglas Parasol Wing design scanned by Mark Nankivil. Looks very like wind tunnel model in first post identified as a Boeing design.

The second one, actually. Look at the nose and the T-tail.

BTW, this one on photo was strategic cruise missile

Lockheed explored the concept, too, circa 1982, in the framework of a much larger Project 2484 for USAF covering High Altitude Configuration Technology. The Cl-2218-1 was one of several iteration of this TDN, dedicated to recon platform studies. This recon aircraft would have cruised at Mach 5.0 at an altitude of over 100.000 feet with a range of 5000 Nmi and a payload of 4500 lbs. Fuel, LH. Turboramjet engines.

Good Day All -

A few scans from a earlier donation I finally got around to scanning. McDonnell Douglas wind tunnel model and artwork. Greater St. Louis Air and Space Museum collection.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

What is/was the expected benefit of a parasol wing on a supersonic aircraft?

What is/was the expected benefit of a parasol wing on a supersonic aircraft?
The same benefit as the bent down wing tips on the XB-70. They were early versions of Wave Riders, that used the shock wave from the nose to increase supersonic L/D. The Boeing design with the inverted U shaped gull wings used the shock wave off of the Nacelle inlet shock cones for the same purpose.
