Blackkite, many thanks for the material!!! It is greatly appreciated! Hard to find information on these planes...

Gerhard, thank you for the three view. I am just in doubt; I have seen online some pictures of this plane, but I think it is another plane/design? There seems to be some confusion in some designations of these planes... Check the differences in the planes; the on e in the picture has swept top wing, different landing gear, different wing tip shape, different rudder, etc. I think the plane in my picture was also for the 8-shi specification, but it also seems ot have had several designations; AF-1 AF-2, NAF-2 8-Shi, etc. Confusing...

On closer look, there seems to be some confusion indeed. In my NAF-1 folder, I have a three-view arrangement which to me seems identical to the one gerhard just posted, yet is clearly identified as NAF-1, not NAF-2... and looking at the photos of both aircraft, I can clearly see that the plan is indeed for NAF-1, NOT NAF-2... And I also have a color profile of the Navy's Experimental 8-Shi two-seat fighter, which looks like just a military version of NAF-1... So we're back to square one, and I still haven't seen a three-view of NAF-2... :'(

It seems yes that it is the NAF-1 indeed, funny that there are differently marked drawings... If you go through varius books you also understand why; the NAF-2 had various designations (also maybe because it went from being military to being civil?). In any case, it still leaves a gap for a possible NAF-2 three view... The search continues! :) In any case, the NAF-1 material is also greatly appreciated as is any interwar japanase aviation material ;)

Yes I think this is NAF-1. NAF-2 did not have such a inverted gull shape under wing. ;)

There is a opinion that NAF-2 looks like tandem two seat 90-shiki carrier fighter A2N1.
This drawing and picture shows single seat 90-shiki carrier fighter.

Indeed the constructional details seem very similar to the A2N and A4N, but then many details and shapes are quite different to other Nakajima designs... Sweep in the wing, single strut landing gear, tail feathers, etc.

The search for a three view continues! :)

Must be a misprint. I got my 3-view drawing from "NIHON KOKUKI SOSHYU
(Encyclopedia of Japanese Aircraft) by Shupan Kyodosha.

I think that upper drawing by VictorXL188-san is NAF-1.

J-BAACNakajima AF-2J-BAACAsahi Shimbun00.07.37Asahi 116 Conversion of NAF-2/8-Shi second prototype
NAF-2 did not have a inverted gull shape under wing.
Following books have same opinions.
(1) ENCYCLOPEDIA OF JAPANESE AIRCRAFT, VOL.5 NAKAJIMA AIRCRAFT CONTENTS.
(2) Japanese Aircraft 1910-1941, PUTNAM, page228, 233.

HAND BOOK OF JAPANESE AIRCRAFT 1910-1945, page174 and 183 are mistake.
