The M-70 and the 60M (nuclear powered), the Bartini designs or the Beriev SD-MBR
were designed from the start as flying boats. IF the problems would have been overcome
(doubtful !), they could have been competitive. But these landbased bombersj with just a
strapped on planing bottom, obiously using the same power plant ,would have been
severely handicaped, to say the least ... ;D

Model of Myasishchev M-70 from USSR-Russian Aviation and Space Collectibles.

NOTE: Although seller claims that model is authentic and accurate, the reader should be aware that the authenticity and accuracy of this model is in question. It may have been manufactured by another party without license.

14 abd 1/4 inches lenght (10 and 3/4 inches wing span) exclusive rare model of M-70 flying boat Intercontinental bomber.Aircraft was ordered from Myasishchev Design Bureau by governmental resolution # 1119-582 of August 15, 1956 (similar aircraft were to be designed also by Tupolev and Beriev). Two versions were provided, a bomber and reconaissance aircraft.

That...looks like a pretty awful way to turn a landplane into a seaplane. Basically welding on a boat hull.

Hey Scott and boxkite, we succeeded in entering the german Sukhoi website !
Not bad isn't it ? ;D
Here the drawing (which was made for boxkites article in Scotts APR Vol.5 N°4)
in a better resolution: ;)

I guess. I'm honestly surprised that very little of the APR material has been scanned and posted on websites or slapped into books over the years.

No, I think it's mostly because APR is so little known. I've seen lots of things in books and online over the years where the conclusion was that "we just don't have any more information," when I'd published detailed schematics *years* before.

It's because *you* know where *we* live, and you pack heat...

Seriously, it's because virtually everyone who's interested in it gets it legitimately, plus we all know, if piracy of APR got
to be a serious problem, you're likely to shut up shop...

cheers,
Robin.

True. On the other hand, the existing land based Myasishchev 3M was somewhat short on range, and the Soviets were even shorter on IFR assets. A seaplane bomber could, in theory, touch down at a pre-designated refueling point while in route to a target, say in the Continental United States.

Splendid, ucon, thanks! But next time, would you please care to develop "MDB" for non-specialists? Nowhere did you mention the name Myasishchev or the word Russian in your post. Can you imagine tracing these images for future reference? Impossible!

I'm changing the name of your topic right away...

Also ucon, please why did you include the Taifun and Kaira designs here? Obviously they are not seaplanes!

Was the Myasishchev Taifun related to this project:

"OKB Korchagin Typhoon multirole carrier-based aircraft"
http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,353.0.html

Was this aircraft intended for use on the aircraft carrier Ulyanovsk?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_aircraft_carrier_Ulyanovsk

I presume that the Taifun is similar to the Grumman EA-6B Prowler and was intended for electronic warfare/attack.

Yamal is also discussed in this topic:

"Aviapetstrans Yamal amphibian"
http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,7227.msg81402.html#msg81402

It gives me a headache trying to keep track of post-breakup aircraft design bureaus and who has what project.

No headache or confusion.
The "Typhoon" was designed in DB Myasishchev in 1978 by Valentin Korchagin - future General Disigner of "Aviaspetstrans".
"Aviaspetstrans" was being incorporated into DB Myasishchev and "Yamal" made at the factory of DB Myasishev. Then "Aviaspetstrans" became an independent unit, but the staff were from KB Myasishev.

Thank you, ucon. :)

ucon, could you clarify for me the connection (if any) between Myasishchev and the Molniya series of aircraft and projects?

I was once under the impression that Molniya projects were somehow related to Myasishchev but now I'm not sure...

In part answer:

Myasishchev's EMZ was absorbed by NPO Molniya to work on Buran in February 1976

NPO "Molniya" comprised two design bureaus - "Burevestnik" (Chief Designer A.V.Potopalov), who had experience in creating designs of hypersonic aircraft and anti-aircraft missiles, and "Molniya" (Chief Designer M.R.Bisnovat ) which develops unmanned aerial vehicles - and EMZ (Experimental Engineering Plant) (General Designer V.M.Myasischev), which designed and tested heavy and high-altitude aircraft.

They were linked, at least in the past. Not sure of the current situation.

Does anyone have specification for Yamal 8 (weight, dimensions, engine?)

I take it the illustration is from the MDB encyclopedia by AvicoPress?

Hi,

does anyone hear about Myasishchev M-10 flying boat bomber Project ?.

Are you sure it's Myasischev?

The Beriev Be-10 was also known as Izdelie "M", and its record-breaking version was designated "M-10" for the FAI.

Oops, sorry,I will correct it my dear Redstar.
