McDonnell Douglas Fokker MDF-100

Can anyone tell me the designation of the MD concept that was basically a DC-9 with wing-mounted engines? I believe there was a sketch of one in a book by Bill Gunston years ago.

Do you mean the Douglas design concepts that led to the DC-9? There are two that I know of.

I believe this was a mid-'80s concept, and not a propfan. I think it was kicked around after the MD-11 was launched. It retained the t-tail but had larger engines under the wings. But thanks for the links! Nice to finally see the plane they had to scrap when the 707 came on the scene.

That's it! I also just stumbled upon a pic of the D-330 that was planned with Airbus - similar as well. But the MDF-100 was the one!

I had been from the F.29 Fokker Forum, and I bet, is this a proposed normal tail version of the Fokker-MD F.29?

Is there any 3-point view blueprints ever exist somewhere?

The MDF.100 is the successor to the F.29. Yes, 3-view drawings exist, and I have copies, from Fokker brochures.




the F-29 used fuselage sections from the Boeing 757. I assume those would not be used for the MDF.100. The wing design is similar.

IMO this aircraft is a bit funny looking when I put a loft into it. It does feels like the shape of a cute little dinosaur, given the wingspan are only 112ft width compared to the total length of the 135ft long fuselage width 168 in fuselage diameter create a somewhat on the small side wing area LMAO. Will it fly? lol

The A321 is 44 m long and has a wing span of 35.8 m. Fokker may not have been the most successful business, but they knew their aerodynamics.
