Can anyone tell me the designation of the MD concept that was basically a DC-9 with wing-mounted engines? I believe there was a sketch of one in a book by Bill Gunston years ago.

Re: MD-?

Do you mean the Douglas design concepts that led to the DC-9? There are two that I know of.

Douglas Project 2067:

There was also the DC-9 Super 80 Propfan:

Re: MD-?

I believe this was a mid-'80s concept, and not a propfan. I think it was kicked around after the MD-11 was launched. It retained the t-tail but had larger engines under the wings. But thanks for the links! Nice to finally see the plane they had to scrap when the 707 came on the scene.

Re: MD-?

Could you be thinking of the MDF-100, a proposal by McDonnell Douglas and Fokker, from the early 1980's?

Re: MD-?

That's it! I also just stumbled upon a pic of the D-330 that was planned with Airbus - similar as well. But the MDF-100 was the one!

Re: MD-?

Funny this: I have the MDF-100 project, but with a regular tail, not a T-tail:
