the Lonsdale-Hands designed a project for direct-lift stratosphere aircraft.

Hi,

there was a similar concept,I displayed it here from anther guy,I even
don't know it was the name of the designer or not (Lonsdale) ?.
 
The designer was Richard Lonsdale-Hands. According to this link, at an engineering exhibition in 1943, he presented this as his notion of what an aircraft would look like in 1968, ie, in 25 years time.
