A friend of mine sent me those images: they are showing the J-11D/E (J-16) design called Silent Flanker, the stealthified variant of the PLAAF Flankers. It supposedly made its maiden flight in March 2010.

It seems plausible that the China is working on the future Flanker upgrades, using the technology from the current J-XX, but it is also plausible, that the chinese "artists" made another BS, based on the F-15 Silent Eagle. The plane, shown on the drawings doesnt seem to be very stealthy and what is more important, it has very significat structural changes. Silent Eagle has only a few modified parts on the same airframe and new capabilities are achieved by the new radar, RAM painting and such. The Silent Flanker, especially its coloured 3 view is in fact completely new plane with the heavy changes of the wing, tail surfaces, forward fuselage and engine nacelles.

What do you think?

Yes, I am also sure that those drawings are BS, but is it possible, that China used the "Silent Eagle" way of thinking to propose some improved Flanker variant? They are now working with Pakistan on the stealthified variant of the FC-1/JF-17, so its not that strange idea.

It would seem to me if you can seriously modify the airframe, you can build one from scratch. The Chinese have shown they are capable of that. Why do a halfway job?

Why build this they have already rolled out pictures of their 6th Generation Fighter

Maybe someone can embed the pictures don't know how.

Well I guess pictures on a CD can be 'rolled' out... But some drawing hardly merits the title en par with the physical unveiling of a prototype aircraft.

;D :D ::)

Thanks for starting this thread! With the images in this thread: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5991.msg48804.html#msg48804 I will have enough information for making a model I was designing. Future Chinese Naval fighter based on the flanker with modifications based on two seater Silent Eagle, Super Hornet, and T-50. Will post at www.whatifmodelers.com :)

Smaller tails, stealthier intakes, radar absorbing matting, and some planform alignment could bring down the RCS down by a significant margin.

If we look at the changes the Chinese made with the J-10B, this design seems plausible.

However with the huge amount of "Fan Art" floating around out there I'll be skeptical until I see photo's of it flying (without photo-shop). ;)

Simply a fan-art ... but if there ever was a "Silent Flanker" ... maybe this way ! ;)
