In a little but long italian manual about aeronautical engineering and construction dating back to 1919, authored by engineer Egidio Garuffa, I've found some information about a new-conception triplane fighter. I enclose some pictures here -sorry for the not so good quality.

Very interesting, I had thought that layout was a much later development.
