Now that's the idea! Alenia Aerospazio proposed to convert the Italian F-104s into the UCAVs instead of scrapping them.

I recall GD, or somebody, proposed a similar conversion of early F-16s in AW&ST although the only significant airframe change was elimination of the canopy.

It was the LM proposal from the second half of the 90s called F-16 DR IUCAV (Dual Role Interim UCAV).
