Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone,

I am Gavin from the UK, this is one of the best best places I have ever encountered, I found this forum a few days ago and joined as it has everything that I am interested in, which I thought was excellent until I found the 'Furry Avatars' thread, so have become a bit side tracked being a lover of all things cat! Thanks for having me

Hi, my name is Ariel but I go by Zuk mostly.

I'm former IDF serviceman, served in the Military Intelligence Directorate's technological unit (81) for 3 years. Yes this I'm allowed to reveal.
My practical work there was mostly RF-related, but the nature of service (as well as long service with really talkative officers), especially of my department, exposed me quite well to the world of modern military intelligence.
No I will not be exposing state secrets, I actually respect OPSEC, and also the compartmentalization is excellent there (compared to IDF standards).

I got interested in the world of defense through video games when I was young. My first area of interest was tanks because really what kid doesn't find that cool? Then I became a defense-homeless, not attached to any specific area too much, trying to keep a broad scope on things - technical, geopolitical, and all in between.

Hello all,

I came across this forum while performing a Google search regarding the F-22. I retired from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) last year.

It's good to find another resource like this forum to keep up with topics of interest, for a while I was starting to think TWZ was the only thing to read!

Sincerely,
-J

Hello, I have been on here for about 2 years, but I never once commented, as of now I am 16, I have curated and compiled content from on here. I do not know the technicalities of aviation, I would consider myself more of a newbie, who might be considered a surface-level enthusiast. My interested started from WWII aviation but then expanded into the Cold War and modern day. That is all there is to say quite frankly.

The WWI and Interwars period are not widely discussed in the forum, but Hesham and I have information in our archives.

Hi, my name is Brian Begnaud, 61 years old, engineer, South Louisiana. Hobby is radio control airplanes, love to scratch build, and design my own. Specifically oddball stuff, and there is plenty inspiration here. I made an A-51 Stallion, Flying Fortress (no, not a B-17, but a fort that flies, with a recording of French solders yelling insults from the Holy Grail on loud speaker), and even a flying Nautilus from Disney's 20,000 Leagues. So many things I want to make reality!

Good day dear Forum,
My name is Filip/Phillip, however suit You. I'm a 35 year old aircraft enthusiast from Poland. Had a chace to serve and being on the theater. Now although I'm from Warsaw (which is not even close to the sea), I'm more focused on naval aircraft so everything from Flying boats/Floatplanes via MPA and ASW planes to Carrier borne planes (especially those not purely combal (AEW, COD). Fingers cross I'm not gonna be kicked out from here soon :) Cheers, All!

Hi, Elfreda here! I'm currently pursuing a PhD in biomedical engineering in the UK, but my real passion lies in physics and its applications in engineering. Always seeking and creating radical designs with little to no regard for anything outside of physics. This site is fantastic because it’s one of the few places where speculations are embraced, and no one keeps questioning, "What's the point of this?"

Practicality is overrated. Whatever existed is conservative.

Hello,

My name is Ian and I am from the UK. I am a retired commercial pilot, interested in all things aviation, especially vintage aircraft and aviation history. I joined this forum in the hope of finding information on the DH105 trainer aircraft project. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be much available.

we did have a topic about it, but nothing much was uncovered. @Hood wrote a book on Postwar Trainers but not sure if he uncovered anything.

Bonjour je suis Jacques M.
Ancien marin à la retraite depuis 2006, je dessine de très nombreux profils de navires militaires ou civils, d'aéronefs, de trains et de véhicules de pompiers, avec parfois des vues en coupe intégrale.
Voir ici : https://forum.air-defense.net/topic/39435-dessins-vectoriels-les-hydravions-et-leurs-bases/

Oops! I got caught up with the automatic translator and forgot I was on an English-speaking site. My apologies and many thanks to the moderator for the translation! ;)
My vector drawings are mostly on French subjects...

Hi everyone! I’m Spewie. Interested in aircraft. I’ve been lurking around the forum for a year or two, but some of the recent aircraft are just too cool to miss:p So finally made an account (and download some pics by the way :)

I would like to think I’m an evil genius with a white cat that controls the whole of western democracy.

Yet clearly that’s nonsense, or is it

Background finance, over 35 years living and working in over 10 countries involved with all asset classes, structured finance, restructuring and the list goes on. Semi-retired.

Love everything aerospace, firearms, military and UAS related.

Regards,

I've lurked here since a little before covid but the NGAD announcements got me to want to start participating. I'm a visual artist and I think the spellbinding and otherworldly appearance of VLO aircraft is what really drives my interest in aerospace, but I've loved it all since I was a kid.

Hi, I am 65 year old engineer and live in Sweden. Not connected to SAAB, but I know a few guys that has been involved in their projects. My closest connection to Gripen is when one of the prototypes crashed a few hundred meters from my apartment right in front of me.

Hi everyone,
I’m Roshan, currently working at the intersection of robotics and vehicle design. My background spans mechanical engineering and data science, and I’ve always been drawn to unconventional vehicles that push the boundaries of conventional design.

One such fascination that’s stayed with me over the years is the world of ekranoplans. There’s something incredibly captivating about how these craft operate in the ground effect zone—balancing between air and sea, combining the best of both domains. Whether it’s the massive Soviet-era Lun-class or modern concepts for cargo transport, I’m constantly amazed by their potential and the engineering that goes into them.

I joined this forum to learn more from those who have researched, designed, or just deeply appreciated WIG craft and similar experimental platforms. I’m here to absorb as much knowledge as I can, exchange ideas, and maybe even contribute with some of my own technical explorations.
Looking forward to diving into discussions and learning from all of you!

Greetings all!

I'm Nick, a 31-year-old Science Writer originally from Indiana but living in Maryland near D.C.
I stumbled across this forum a few days ago in my search for photos of aircraft from Boeing's X-Wing project, which I was looking for to get references for a speculative fiction art project inspired by some of those designs. I've always been fascinated by X planes and the like, and I'm eager to find out more about the history of this topic and see some examples.

Glad to meet you all - here's hoping we can chat soon :)
