Here is some interesting Chinese propaganda intended for internal consumption.

Devastating power of China's J-15 ranks high in the world

(Translated into English from the People's Daily Online) 16:59, October 23, 2012 (My bold)

The J-15, a heavy bomber independently developed by China, has the features of excellent carrier-based aircraft, but it still needs time for the aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, to become combat effective, a military expert disclosed in an interview recently.

The carrier-based aircraft refers to any naval planes based on an aircraft carrier or other warships, which is used to attack targets in the air, on and under the water and on ground and execute tasks of early warning, scouting, patrolling, convoying, mine-laying, mine clearance and vertical landing. It is used as one of the main weapons of naval air forces in battles and an important force to seize and maintain air and sea controls on the maritime battlefield.

It has also become the focus of attention of the outside world that whether the repeated "touch and go landing" in recent days means that J-15 will be delivered soon. To this question, Chinese naval expert Li Jie said as it is the first time for China to carry out taking off and landing training of a carrier-based aircraft, it still needs much time for J-15 to be delivered.

In addition, the external world also paid special attention to the performance of J-15. An expert revealed that J-15 is a fighter plane of or above the third generation. It has superior combat performance and characteristics of excellent carrier-based aircraft.

Du Wenlong, senior colonel and researcher of Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, told the reporter in an interview, "First, it is a heavy-duty carrier-based aircraft, which means that it has larger flying range and bigger bombs and fuel load, and its control range and devastating power rank high in the world. In addition, from the basic equipment of the heavy-duty carrier-based aircraft, the J-15 is compatible with various kinds of ammunition and has any functions a standard foreign carrier-based aircraft owns. The J-15 aircraft is able to accurately and efficiently run on the aircraft carrier and is also an important sign of integrated sea-air combat force of Chinese navy until now."

Talking about the significance of the carrier-based aircraft to the combat effectiveness of the aircraft carrier, Li Jie said, "The main fighting power of an aircraft carrier is embodied in the planes so the majority of countries regard the training of carrier-based aircraft as a top priority."

Chinese public actually believe in that. This is why the communist party can stay in business to this day, due to the effectiveness of its propaganda ministry.

Actually, the Chinese communists stay in business - as interest a turn of phrase as any - because it made the Chinese economy grow by a factor of 10 in about 20 years. Next to that, propaganda is but a trivial concern.

Actually, it's largely true. J-15 is based off the unfinished T-10K-3 bought from the Ukraine more than a decade ago. There's a long way from an unfinished airframe to a finished combat ready fighter...

Between a license to actually manufacture Su-27, several squadrons of Russian made Su-30 in their hands, and a structurally complete T-10K-3 prototype to use as reference, just how much is left in the J-15 that would require them to innovate on their own?

Maybe we should say the Chinese copied Su-33 completely independently, without any Russians being there to tell them how to copy it.

...or so the propaganda about public opinion would have us believe...

When you talk to a Chinese national(from mainland China, not ethnic Chinese from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, etc), you are amazed how clueless these people are about the outside world; blame it on the Great Firewall Of China(The world's most advanced content distribution control platform. This is the real wonder of the world, not the Great Wall) and the tight state control on media.

Not only these Chinese nationals do not understand what it's like to live in a free country with free speech, they are brainwashed at the earliest age to believe that it's the Communist Party that is holding China together and the collapse of the party would lead to a total chaos and endless civil wars that plagued China for thousands of years, so they are better-off with the communist party rule. This is why even the people like Jackie Chan says Chinese do not deserve freedom and need to be controlled by the state.

How many J-15's are in existence? I've read various reports ranging from four (4) to sixteen (16).

By the way, why is this J-15 yellow?

One of the prototypes (no. 555) has actually serial c/n. 0007 and since we've already seen several WS-10H powered limited serial production types I would assume at least more than 10. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the next PLAAF/PLANAF-regiment to stand up would actually be a J-15 unit.

And regarding yellow ... simply due to not being painted, the yellow is the primer !

And there's a good reason for that... the Communist Party leadership realized that collectivism is the *wrong* solution, that communism doesn't work, and that privatization and capitalism are the road to prosperity. Described here: http://up-ship.com/blog/?p=13257

Being raised in Maoist ideology, however, they couldn't bring themselves to admit publicly that socialism was full of crap... so they institute capitalism, but call it socialism. Being both new to capialism, and largely unwilling to acknowledge it, they've made some pretty bad blunders, but they'll figure it out.
