use that money and invest it in navalizing AMCA, an actual 5th gen fighter (i hope)
and untl then, buy Rafale Ms or Super Hornets for the carriers.
 
That concept art looks like a F-35 cockpit mated to a Rafale body...

Going by what I have seen, their view is that converting a ground-based fighter for carrier ops (like Fulcrum or LCS was) is an inherently bad idea.

I would like to see a navalised variant of the AMCA too helmutkohl, but the airforce variant must fly first before the navy gets their version.

Second (after Boramae) "4th gen" plane of the 2020s, may be out of 3(depending on what "F-16 replacement" may develop into).
Making this whole "generations" thing more and more ridiculous.

5gen AMCA on paper started in 2010.
5gen FC-31 flew in 2012
4gen TEDBF on paper started in 2019. LOL! :D as if navy'll get special discount on threats. o_O
Now in 2026 J-35 is getting ready for production but 4gen TEDBF design has been frozen for review & testing. ROFL!:p
> I understand that India would like to save money & spend on own jet rather than give away to France for Rafales, but no project have ever moved on time. Manufacturing nations still making 4gen have demand in global market by nations with no/imited R&D, secured by 5gen & working on 6gen. While Indian 5gen AMCA is delayed & not even an official diagram of domestic 6gen. Naval 4gen TEDBF will have to call AF 5gen AMCA for protection.

This means if AMCA can have IWB so can TEDBF.
For notional AG load I used CADs of AGM-88G, JSM, AGM-158 JASSM.
For AA load i used Astr AAM CAD.
When we superimpose AMCA's IWB dimension box on both jets with AA, AG & mixed load, it looks like this -

> IN indicated 5gen TEDBF at Aero-India'25. Some say it's for new CATOBAR IAC & 4gen TEDBF is for STOBAR IAC. IMO just like adjustment with Rafale has been done, similarly 5gen jet can be operated within STOBAR paramaters till CATOBAR IAC is made, otherwise from shore bases.

> Mechanical & Aero engineers can tell better, but i 've been thinking of putting a half-length catapult before ski-ramp, but it might reduce under deck space.

- newer gen comes with newer architecture/framework, weapons, strategies, tactics.​
- Modular IWBs, CFTs can be implemented like in F-15 & planned in GCAP.​
- Like Su-75, a longer centerline IWB can hold Brahmos-NG type AGM.​
- A stealth jet can fire bigger AShM carried externally, but where/when stealth will be needed, a 4gen jet can't do it.​
- Ship of any size can be precisely hit by smart weapons & immobilized, sensors blinded.​
