I am looking for pics of the Strv-2000 mockup, searched the internet but only came up with 2 not to good pics, I am also intrested in pics/info on the Landsverk entry in the IKV-91 competiton.

Any help is welcome

Yeah, that was the pics I mentioned, I was hoping for a sideview or a good drawing

From a Japanese website, which today produced blank rectangles for pictures. I can't vouch for its accuracy.

Very nice looking concept tank. I remember reading that they were also proposing an unmanned turret design and if it had been built, it would have been the world's best protected tank.

Where was all the Middle East oil money for this project? :D

Not quite. The Swedish third generation tank development (1970-80s) project included a range of external turret designs evolving from the S-Tank concept. These designs and technology demonstraters were named in the UDES series. See:

Only after difficulties in leadership accepting these radical designs did the Swedes turn to the more conventional STRV2000 project.

The Swedes had no problems funding their own tank design and development and never would have accepted 'Middile East Money' not to mention even sell major weapon systems to the Middile East. Swedish weapons development in the Cold War benefited from a compartively streamlined and competent arms procurment agency that operated at effecincy levels not seen in the West since WW2 (or outisde Israel since then). That is they knew what they wanted, asked for it once and let the industry get on with delivering the product.

Very good information Abraham. The designs of the UDES series and STRV2000 were really ahead of their time. Almost 30 years later and they would still be advanced compared to what's out there today. They also look rather stealthy.

Interesting concept about only having APFSDS rounds for the main gun and use the 40mm for everything else. Only updates I would make would be to add a remote .50cal turret on the turret roof and active armor defense.

Those were the days... :'(

;)

BTW, isn't there a connection with this tank and the concept of a radio-controlled tank which John Brewer in UK was interested in, at least procurement-wise? ???

They were hoping at one stage to sell it to Sweden. And I won't get into yet another argument with you on the other issue.

The above related to some now deleted posts by Abraham Gubler and myself regarding a Swiss attempt to interest Sweden in the NKPz program.
