Guizhou JL-9 (FTC-2000) Advanced Jet Trainer

Yeah, FTC-2000G has really left only the general fuselage shape of the MiG-21, but almost every other part of the plane is new or redesigned. Different nose, cockpit/canopy, wings, vertical tail, different spine, longer fuselage and so on. Landing gear too seems a bit taller. The horizontal tails seem mostly the same, though. The engine might be still fairly similar to original Soviet design, though it's unlikely there haven't been various modifications to that too.
 
whats the cost difference between the FTC-2000 and the FC-1?
ive read somewhere that Sudan plans to use it for combat rather than training
but if the price isnt too different, why not go for the FC-1 instead

FC-1 should be US $ 25 Million per unit , according to :

But anyway JL-9 / FTC-2000 seems very cheap, and rely more on cheaper stuff, for example the engine is still a WP-13 like the J-7, development of the WP-7, itself coming from the Tumansky R-11. I suppose it helps also for former MiG-21/J-7 users maintenance/training wise.
FC-1 has the Klimov RD-93 , so also just the fact that it has a non Chinese and newer engine must drive the price up.
Plus it is a completely new and more recent airframe compare to J-7/MiG-21. Still 25m $ for a jet fighter is a bargain.
 
I don’t have good solid sources for their comparative pricing so I’d use Google results as indicative of the approx. comparative/ proportional cost of each only.
The article you post has the FTC-2000G costing approx 8.5m USD.
Web searches for the cost of the JF-17 throws up estimates of 17m - 25m USD depending on the Block (later blocks with more advanced systems becoming more expensive).
Web searches for the cost of the YAK-130 indicate approx €15m USD.

Hence while the per unit and total cost of any particular deal will clearly vary substantially that at least gives an indication of how much cheaper a deal for the same number of FTC-2000s (basically a re-redress/ new noise and re-name of a late Chinese MiG-21/ J-7 variant) would be versus the equivalent deal for those other options.

Reasonable arguments could be made (pro and con) if it’s actually the best cost/ capacity trade-off in this context but the Myanmar military junta have apparently made their decision.
 
It seems that Myanmar AF FTC-2000 are "G" variant who is a dual seat light combat aircraft/lead-in fighter trainer. It is designed to replace fighters like the J-7/F-7 & MiG-21. Maximum speed is Mach 1.2, a maximum flight range of 2,400 km, an operational flight ceiling of 15 km & can carry maximum 3 tons of weaponry. It can use SD-10 BFR fire-and-forget missile & CM-102 ARM as displayed at Airshow China 2018. Myanmar FTC-2000G (1402) (2022).jpg
