Amazing idea dear Masher47,

and from WWII,the company Fieseler had a towed fuel-wing,just hypothetical concept.

Also, some British company, Hillson, had something called the 'slipwing'. I haven't read this document yet, but i suspect it was a similar concept.

F. Hills & Sons Ltd. intended their Slip-Wing (at first) to be more for giving fighters a shorter take-off nad higher climb rate. For this, they made a small proof of concept aircraft called Hillson Bi-mono, and later converted one Hurricane with Slip-Wing. This machine, called by the company Hillson FH.40, was intended more for long range flights than for short take-off and the upper wing contained aditional fuel. Performace of the Slip-Wing Hurricane was very poor, so all works were soon abandoned.
