I found this brochure for a military rear loader version of the F-27 Friendship (thanks to Thorvic, who spotted it at SMW). This replaced the entire rear fuselage to allow a rear ramp to be used.

This is the first step to flying boat!
Empennage already raised far away from the water spray, so now it's time to raise propellers (a-la Antonov An-32), reshape fuselage to hull and add stabilzing floats.
