That site is long since dead unfortunately. I was involved but I cannot take full credit for the content. My site www.hisutton.com will hopefully live up to its namesake.

Hello!

I occasionally found some pictures of Fairchild-Republic-built (if I correct) midget submarine SS X-1 in this nice thread about Grumman company' activities http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13327&start=780
Images 3844-3853 displays development and construction of this unique submarine.

The US x-craft, which were intended for beach recce, suffered a similar fate around that time, although one was built (USS-X1).

All attached photos - via http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org

Enjoy!

Hello!
I was really impressed, that images of SS X-1 midget submarine have been viewed more the hundred times. Although, I place them in this topic just because I'm not a submarine' fan, and found this topic, mentioning X-1.

Perhaps, it would be more appopriate to split this part to separate thread - I could ads some pictures from the above mentioned source.
It would be great, if member "covert_shores" would be so kind to add any useful info. Of course, it would be completely his decision.

great photos. I've added an article on Covert Shores - http://www.hisutton.com/USS_X1.html

Thanks for a noter interesting article!
Did you know anything about the concepts for delivery of USS X-1 and similar postwar UK midget subs to their (possible) area of operation?
With its limited range and the mission to operate in the hostile's harbors, they definitely need some transportation ship/submarine?
