Greetings All -

A recent donation to the Museum had this drawing of an F-18A with Rolls Royce engines. The engines are not specifically called out - might they be RB199s?

My guess is a sales pitch to the British and if RB199s, some commonality with the Tornado.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

The only engines that made it into production that fit the thrust bracket I can think of are the RB199.
Dry power is somewhat lower than the F404 though.
The Spey would be too big andheavy, I feel.
Of course, the Ej-200 would also be a nice fit, but I assume this drawing is from before that engine came to fruition?

During AST.403 work in the late 1970s the UK did look at the performance of the F-18L (not A) with RB.199s.
