Not unbuilt, but interesting. Nice PDF from NASA.

Back in the late '90s/early 2000s, I flew R/C sailplanes with Robert Champine at the NATS each year. At first I did not put 2 and 2 together then one day while timing him during a flight, someone came up and asked him if he flew the XC-142. When he said "yes", I was floored but waited til he had finished the flight and we had filled out the scorecard. At that point, I flooded him with questions while in standing there in awe. Bob was the 6th to fly Mach 1, being the third civilian to do so. An unassuming man and a fine, fine gentleman who was a true pleasure to know. I was at the USAF Museum on December 17, 2003 when I got word that he had passed away. Seemed fitting being the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight...

Enjoy the Day! Mark
