DITS MOINEAU COLONIAL FLYING BOAT

In the linked thread on the Rise of Flight forum, there is some info on the engine (beginning from 7th post down, in a (slightly unclear) comparison between engines used on the Breguet 14:

I think the Colonial Flying Boat itself was a early to mid 1920's programme using surplus engines. However I have no hard data, so buyer beware applies!

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi,

I searched for this airplane,but I couldn't find it,instead off open new topic
for take about René Moineau,and his activities of aviation.

In 1909 he built some biplane gliders,after that he joined Breguet and
designed a little numbers of aircraft,followed by Salmson-Moineau S.M.1 & S.M.2,a well know recce/bomber airplanes.

During WW1 also,he created the Moineau C.1, a single seat monoplane fighter,powered by one 300 hp Hispano-Suiza engine,then he invented
a two-seat pusher aeroplane for military use,but no more details are
known.

Hi,

also Dits-Moineau designed a small metal airplane for tropical service.

From L'Aeronautique 1923,

does anyone hear about it before,Type-X ?.

Hi. In l'Aeronautique № 7 1923 p. 273 the avionnette "Dits-Moineau X" is mentioned.
She was announced for the Grand Prix du "Petit Parisien", but failed to participate.

It's flying wing. May be it never was finished.

dits_detail.jpg

Don't you know any details about this small plane? Or may be photo?

Lwing = 8,5 m, L = 6,5 m, Swing = 14 m2, Mempty = 140 kg, Sergant engine

Thank you in advance

I suspect this is the Dits-Moineau design shown in the following post by Hesham, https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/little-known-french-projects-and-prototypes.15821/page-14 answer 557

From L'Aeronautique 1923,

does anyone hear about it before,Type-X ?.
Info about it from TU magazine;

At the 1923 Moto-Aviette Grand Prix, Moineau entered a plate of the same type as the previous projects, smaller, and called type X. It had was carried out by the Dits establishments.The engine was a 16 hp Sergant.
The thick profile monoplane wing included four spruce spars, while
the ribs were made of plywood. the fuselage consisted of the two central plywood box ribs.The fixed landing gear included two 600 x 75 wheels mounted on a bent axle supported in the middle by two struts. Shock absorbers were with bungee cords. The device presented itself to the test, but he could only succeed some jumps, forbidding him to take go to the competition.

Also from TU about Flapping Wing Aircraft;

Finally, after the aerial wheel and the helicopter, Moineau worked on the flapping wing. He carried out a number of tests in the water and then in the air at Versailles. A wing, mounted in merry-go-round, beat as a result
of the rotation of an eccentric mass rotating at its end, the autororation of the merry-go-round was happening and the measure of the
lift was performed. These tests had
apparently took place in September 1935. It
obviously filed patents and made them
his state doctoral thesis, brilliantly
supported in June 1939. He also made
a communication to the academy of
sciences on March 20, 1939, indicating that
the swing wing is self-propelling and high-lift. But in the meantime the pump Moineau had been invented, war was
there, and our tireless inventor had
other concerns than the realization
of a flapping wing aircraft.

Since only three of 12 posts here are about the Dits Moineau hydravion colonial , might I suggest that this topic be renamed something like René Moineau Aircraft Projects?

Perhaps also move Salmson-Moineau and Dits-Moineau related projects here from the massive Little-Known French Projects and Prototypes thread? Eg:

Anyone know how many Salmson Moineau S.M.1 were completed? ...

From TU 194, Dits-Moineau.

BTW, if that last post is transferred, it is worth noting that Trait d'Union garbled the maker's name in its caption - it should read Établissements Henri Dits rather than 'Etablissement Henry Dits' (sic). (See attachment: "Établissements Henri Dits: Avions Système R. Moineau". Note: in some other period Henri Dits adverts, the name 'René' is spelled out.)
