Cutaway drawing of DCNS Barracuda-class nuclear-powered attack submarine. The first submarine will be named Suffren, and will be followed by the Duguay-Trouin, Dupetit-Thouars, Duquesne, Tourville and De Grasse, the build order of these five following submarines being subject to change.

11 years on… (!) 1st of class Suffren continues working up to IOC.

She has spent 220+ days at sea over the last 17 months (her first dive was in April 2020). This includes a warm water deployment to the Caribbean, firing trials of all her weapons (including the new MDCN cruise missile), trials with the new special forces dry deck shelter, and now participation in her first major exercise, Polaris 21. Moving along nicely…

1st of class Suffren completes her first operational deployment escorting the French carrier strike group. She has now completed 450+ days at sea since first sea trials in April 2020, including 190 days at sea in 2022.

2nd sub Duguay Trouin is due to start sea trials imminently.
