LAE DL-13, DP-11 "Dawilson's Plane" resembles an Evans VP-2 Volksplane updated with a full pressure engine cowling (ala. Lopresti) and a cockpit canopy resembling a Thorp T-18. A similar canopy was popular on Long Mini-Mustang 2.
With only 78 horsepower, plans-built VP-2s had marginal performance, so only a few were built. Its ultra-simple wooden airframe was easy to build, but a bit overweight.
The best converters of VW, flat-four, automobile engines were only able to produce 85 horsepower before they were limited by cooling problems.

This Brazilian-built akaflueg would have been faster than a VP-2 but still sluggish in climb.
