Dassault Variable Geometry: Mirage G / G4 /G8 family

Only four AAMs carried for an aircraft of this size (bigger than a Tornado and MiG-23) would have been rather underwhelming.
 
Super Mirage G8A/ACF would have been a "F-15 class" fighter (in terms of raw performance) with less advanced aerodynamics.
The original G and G8 were MiG-23 and F-111/F-14A class, respectively.
The decision to replace US-designed TF-30s with French M53s on the G8A gave it superior engines to those of an F-14A. But let's not forget that, while on paper it should have superior raw performance in the air to an F-14A, keep in mind that it would have inferior agility and cockpit visibility, and it was very likely to get inferior weapons and avionics suite.
Speaking of Grumman, an early Grumman FX (pictured below) study showed similar characteristics to the G8A.

How effective could the Mirage G8A be with 55° sweep angle? If for some reason the G8A entered production and went into a conflict
Would it worked as well as the Mirage F1 when it comes to dogfights, bombing, interception, etc?
The sweep angle was chosen based on experience with the variable sweep of the G series. I believe they picked it because on the G it was the best sweep angle for supersonic maneuverability.
 
The G8-02 before it was retired in 11/1974 flew with its VG wing fixed at 55 degrees. Very much an ACF demonstrator.

The ACF program started in May 1972 the prototype was to fly in 1976. But in December 1975 the ACF was canned as too expensive and the unfinished prototype was scrapped; while the low-end shifted from F1-M53 to Mirage 2000.

A pity they didn't finished it on private funding : as the 4000 was built and flown three years later.

Wished the two G8, ACF and 4000 flew together. Imagine, Le Bourget air show 1981.
