I wonder if "weapons in space" development and policy will develop using tried and true nuclear deterrence theory? Meaning everyone has a basic no first use doctrine with weapons that make any attack of a countries space assets mutually destructive and not worth it.

Clearly at this stage the US is the preeminent space power so it may be an imperative to development both defensive and offensive space systems, especially given the statement by the Chinese.

The last time the Chinese fought a major war was in the Korean War (Although using the PVA not the PLA) which ended 73 years ago (Any surviving veterans will be very old men in their 90s) and the last time the PLA was in active war was in the brief 1979 invasion of Vietnam (Where they got their collective arses kicked by the local Vietnamese militia).

Good for them that their peer adversary hasn't fought a peer since 1945, just lost and won against non-peers in the meantime.

Peer-to-peer warfare would be new to every participating force across all domains (Space, Air, Sea, Land, Cyberspace).

Admittedly, the US had just concluded a ~20year long "training campaign" with the People's Army of Vietnam, so all of the recalled troops and all of the command elements were very well trained indeed.
