Hi.

AFAIK was this a pure theoretical idea of IJA Technical Bureau to use the Type 5 105 mm Tank Gun available from early 1945 as tank armament.

There were post-war rumors of this model being a part of an existing Chi-Ri upgrade program which also included the uparmoring to 105 mm frontal armor and upgunning with a 8,8 cm gun based on the Type 99 AA-gun. There were also thoughts to install the 105 mm gun on the basic Type 5 Tank inside a modified Chi-Ri-turret. But it seems that all papers around this program were destroyed prior to surrender
