Hi,

Charles Fauvel (31 December 1904 - 10 September 1979) was a
French aircraft designer noted for his flying wing designs, and in
particular, his flying wing sailplanes. He became interested in
soaring after witnessing a competition at Vauville in 1925, and set
out to design a competition glider with minimal drag, settling on
the flying wing formula based on the work of Georges Abrial and
René Arnoux.

AFAIK no AV 223 and AV 224
Fauvel has studied his AV 22 in four steps:
- The first time in 1937 as you mentioned : Can be referenced as AV 22-1
- Second study in February 1946: AV 22-2
- Third study in November 1951: AV 22-3
- Last & final study in June 1953 : AV 22-4. This last one was finally selected and ordered.

2 prototypes built: AV 22 01 (F-WCDC, 1st flight 5.04.1956) and AV 22 02 (F-WCDD 1st flight 2.04.1957)
4 serie production ordered as AV-22S (S for Serie): n/s 1 F-CCGK; n/s 2 F-CCGL; n/s 3 F-GGGM then BGA2344, now flying in New Zealand, & n/s 4 F-CCGN.
n/s 1 & 2 have since been transformed in AV-22SA (A for Allongé=extented span)

One AV-221 prototype built by Fauvel (F-CRON) using the wings of AV-22S n/s 4 mated with a new 2-seat side by side fuselage.
Two AV-222 (AV-221 redesigned for amateur construction): SE-XSL built by Hans Martisson in Sweden and F-CRGC owned by Jean Claude Neglais. A third one under construction in Germany.

Note: The AV 221 supposed to be powered by the de Coucy "Pygmée" engine was the AV 221B (but as all the engines designed by Louis de Coucy for Charles Fauvel aircraft, il was never finished)...

Confirmation that the AV 21 was a single seat version of the AV 22-1, supposed to be built by Etabilssements Louis Felix at Marseille around 1937.

Same remark for AV-45: No AV-452 (as such) and no AV-453.
Total 5 examples of the AV-45 (2 prototypes and 3 amateur-built) were tested.
AV-45 n°01 ( F-WCAG) is built by Fauvel. First flight 4 mai 1960. Engine is a Nelson 59A 4 cylinders 2 stroke of 35HP, driving the propeller via a 0,8m shaft. Engine replaced in 1966 by a Nelson H63CP of 45 HP.
In summer 1967, the Nelson engine is replaced by a Microturbo "Éclair" 012-01 (150 tlbs) and is renamed AV-45R (R for "réacteur" - jet engine). 1st flight: June 22, 1967). Complete test program performed then jet-engine removed.
Equiped with a Rotax 503. Sold to Bernard Ponsot. Registered F-CRRY. In 1978, equiped with a engine Rockwell-Ilo of 32HP. Still flying?
AV-45 n°02 (F-WCHR) manufactured by the SAN. First flight 26 July 1962. Now at the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace.
AV-45 n°3 (licence drawing n°3) (F-WCHS then F-WRRG) construction by Félicien Noin for Pavailler. 1st flight November 27, 1971. Registrated then as F-CRRG. Engine Nelson then Rotax 582. Still flying?
AV-45 n°? (licence drawing n°?) built in Japan by Bockelmann (eventually registrated JA?????). Solo engine. First amateur-built AV-45 to fly in March 1966 (or 1968). Moved to South Africa and registrated ZS-UEC in August 1968. Destroyed on June 3rd 1976 at Baragwanath. (It is photos -and information- of this particular aircraft I am looking for).
AV-45 n°13 (licence drawing n°13): Built as AV-451 by François and Roger Gross (Rotax engine) Registrated F-WRRM then F-CRRM). Still flying.

Information on the AV-47, from a "Falconar Aircraft" brochure dated End 1958:

"Fauvel AV-47
A special version of the AV-22 is being designed for amateur construction. This machine may be offered in kit form. It will feature a steel tube fuselage with fabric covering, thought the use of fiberglass shell is under consideration, otherwise it will be identical to the AV-22."
