Hi,


The is the Brazilian hypersonic aircraft, named in tribute to the 14-bis Alberto Santos-Dumont.This aircraft is equipped with a scramjet engine, which is integrated into fuselage and has no moving parts.The operating principle is that, during the flight, the air is compressed by geometry and speed of the vehicle and directed to the engine at the bottom of the aircraft. Hydrogen is used as the fuel.

Hi.

Some pictures extracted from some of the above publications. I was a bit too fast renaming the files. Please correct and change VHA-1B into VHA-14XB. Well… you get it. The name 14B means something: it actually refers to Santos-Dumont "14-Bis" aircraft / kite flown in 1906.

Here is some clarification. As far as I have understood, as of 2018, 3 project variants fall within the scope of FAB's [Força Aérea Brasileira]'s initiative called "Projeto de Propulsão Hipersônica com Ar Aspirado – PropHiper – 14X"

  1. The original "intented" "vision" VHA 14 X aerospace vehicle
  2. An asymmetric, experimental, (single) scramjet powered waverider called the "14X B"
  3. A symmetric (mirror-like), experimental, over/under scramjet configuration called "14X S" discussed at length in a November 2013 paper (maybe earlier)
Other scholar, experimental studies included inward turning scramjet configuration.
That's it.

I thought the project had been cancelled before, but in fact it is still going on, which is amazing.

At the end of last year, they had launched their first test aircraft, which consisted of a booster and an air-breathing engine system.
